How are CSRS disability benefits computed?
A CSRS-covered disability retiree (including CSRS Offset) generally is entitled to the larger of: the earned annuity computed under the standard formula or a guaranteed minimum benefit. Almost all new applicants for CSRS disability retirement have their benefits calculated under the general formula because they have sufficient years of service to make the guaranteed minimum inapplicable. The exception is employees with lengthy breaks in service.
If you are a CSRS Offset employee, your CSRS disability annuity will be reduced by the amount of any Social Security disability benefit you earned while covered by CSRS Offset.
